E.l.f. First Impressions
As you will recall I un-boxed my Elf products the other day, so now it's time to try them out.
Having watched several You Tuber's trying out the Elf makeup, I had learned that the baked highlighters tended to have a "layer" on the top, that inhibits you being able to picked up product. So the first thing I did was take the brush side of an eyelash comb and gently rubbed this over the surface of the baked highlighter and the blush and illuminate palettes as they seemed to have the same problem. This did make picking up product much easier. (The bronzer palette didn't seem to have this problem.)
After applying my foundation I tried out the concealers. The HD lifting concealer I applied under my eyes and the colour was a good match. My foundation didn't move or bunch up and covered my dark circles really well. The Perfect Blend Concealer was much thinner, the wrong colour and moved my foundation so that my blemishes actually looked worse. I'll probably try this one out again when I'm doing a really simple look.
The Bronzer palette had a nice range of colours with both matte and shimmer finishes. They are not highly pigmented but do build up to a nice colour with out grabbing or bunching, you just need a little patience to build the colour.
The Blush palette again a lovely selection of colours with both pink and peach tones, mattes and shimmer. Again not overly pigmented but for me that's not a problem as I prefer to build my blush up, rather than end up with loads on and have to take it away/ tone it down.
The Eyebrow kit, now I bought this as a contour shade rather than for use on my eyebrows. I have to say that it is the perfect shade for me and my pale ass skin, as a contour, I just wish they made it in a bigger pan! I will also at some point try this out on my brows and see how it compares to by Benefit brow products.
The Illuminate palette. I am really disappointed with this. In the palette they look like great colours but once you put them on your cheek bones there is hardly any shimmer at all, if any. What I might do is try them out as eyeshadow and see how that pans out (no pun intended, lol).
Last but not least the baked highlighter in Blush Gems. This has way more shimmer than the Illuminate palette, and is a really lovely colour as it's a pinkish champagne colour and looked really lovely, giving a nice highlight without being overly reflective and in your face, but I'm sure that is could be built up to give a more pronounced highlight, if that's what you wanted.
All in all, I quite like the Elf products and for the price they are very good. None of the products were overly chalky but did give kickback when you used a brush in the pan, just to warn you.
I hope you enjoyed this review.
All the best
